Double Sunday treat for Indian cricket

SUPER SUNDAY 1/2
This time, the choke's not on India. It was hard labour as cricket fans furiously switched TV channels all Sunday, but in the end the reward was sweet and memorable. On a historic day for Indian cricket, youth and experience served up a double delight, coming up trumps in two tense final encounters spread across continents, bringing lumps to the throats of frenzied Indian fans from India to Kuala Lumpur to Sydney .
In KL, Delhi batsman Virat Kohli's Indian team won the Under-19 World Cup , beating South Africa in a bitterly fought, rain-hit final by 12 runs on the Duckworth-Lewis formula. Just hours before the colts exploded in a burst of euphoric celebrations, the experienced hand of Sachin Tendulkar had guided India to a convincing six-wicket victory over the mighty Australians in Sydney. Tendulkar scored a majestic, unbeaten 117 as India successfully chased 240 for victory, his first ODI ton in Australia and his 42nd overall. Here too he was aided by youth, as Rohit Sharma contributed 66 in a 123-run fourth-wicket stand.
MS Dhoni's team now have a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three tri-series finals, putting to shade all the snide off-field bluster from the likes of Matthew Hayden, and proving hollow Oz skipper Ricky Ponting's claim, in his TOI column, that the "third final won't be required".
The juniors didn't have Tendulkar's assured genius to bank upon, but as they have throughout the tournament, Kohli's boys backed themselves with gusto and raised their game in crucial situations to come up with a spirited win, India's second U-19 Cup triumph since Mohammad Kaif's team won in Sri Lanka in 2000.
It was a nervy affair from start to finish, and rain complicated the situation. Last time, the juniors had stumbled chasing 110 against Pakistan in the final, but this time they showed no such panic.
Magnificent Tendulkar seals victory
In 38 previous ODI innings in Australia, Sachin Tendulkar had never scored a hundred; in 11 previous one-day internationals against Australia in Sydney, India had never won. Both those jinxes were wiped out in a memorable evening at the SCG, as Tendulkar scripted a magnificent unbeaten 117 and shared a 123-run fourth-wicket stand with Rohit Sharma to take India to an emphatic six-wicket win and a 1-0 lead in the CB Series finals.
The match was a story of sizeable contributions by two openers - Matthew Hayden scored a brisk 82 - and two century partnerships for the fourth wicket - Andrew Symonds shared a 100-run stand with Hayden. Those efforts lifted Australia to a challenging 8 for 239, which, given the Australian bowling strength, might have been enough on another day. Today, though, they ran into an in-form Tendulkar.
From the outset, Tendulkar's approach suggested he was in the mood. In the first te
n overs he only found the boundary once, through a savage lofted square-cut off Nathan Bracken, but the evidence that he was in top form came in other ways: the footwork was precise and decisive right from the start, and the judgment of length was impeccable. With Robin Uthappa, he gave India the perfect start, as both ran hard between the wickets, placed the ball into gaps, and put together 50 an excellent rate with scarcely a risk - there were just three fours in the stand.
The innings wobbled briefly thereafter, though, as Michael Hussey pulled off a magnificent catch at deep midwicket - it will surely rank among the catches of the season - to get rid of Uthappa. Two more wickets fell quickly, as Gautam Gambhir failed to respond to an obvious call for a second run, and Yuvraj Singh continued to flounder abysmally against Brad Hogg's spin.
At 3 for 87, the match was perfectly in the balance, before Tendulkar found the perfect ally in Rohit, and their stand turned out to be the match-defining one. With Rohit secure in defence and attack, it allowed Tendulkar to play normally too, and what followed was a treat. After the early threat of Brett Lee had been negated, Tendulkar turned his attention to the others: Hogg was driven over extra-cover for two glorious fours while Mitchell Johnson was perfectly tipped over slip. All along, he pierced the infield, took the singles, and ensured the asking rate never got beyond control. A cramp towards the end of the innings restricted certain strokes, while a beamer from Lee - who apologised immediately - crashed into his shoulder when he was on 98, but today he was not to be denied. The century finally came with the dab to gully, and the celebrations indicated how special it was.
At the other end, Rohit showed why he is held in such high regard by the experts. He began with two glorious straight-drives off Bracken, and then continued in such serene fashion that Australia scarcely had a sniff. He finally fell immediately after Tendulkar's hundred, but by then the result was only a formality.

ram charan teja

The muhurat of Ram Charan Teja’s latest film in the direction of SS Rajamouli was held at Film Nagar Cultural center today morning. This meet was attended by Ram Charan Teja, Rajamouli, Kajal Agarwal, Allu Arvind, BVNS Prasad, Senthil Kumar etc.

Chiranjeevi, Allu Arjun etc attended the muhurat.

Rajamouli is supposed to direct Ram Charan first film - Allu Arvind
Speaking on the occasion Allu Arvind said, “We asked SS Rajamouli to direct the first film of Ram Charan Teja and due to some reasons it did not finalize. But Rajamouli promised us that he would direct the second film Ram Charan. Rajamouli is known for big budget film. But he was really thinking of a script that that costs a lot more. When he narrated the basic storyline, we were very much impressed and asked him to develop into full script. I am currently doing a Hindi film now and I might not contribute full of my time as a producer. Since Bhogavalli Prasad is close to Rajamouli and they worked for a blockbuster (Chatrapati) in the past, we requested Prasad to help us the production and he gladly agreed. I would like to thank Prasad for taking off a big responsibly from me.”

This film is about reincarnation - Rajamouli
Rajamouli said, “For the first time I am attempting a love story. At the same time, more action sequences will be there compared to my earlier films. The story of the film is about reincarnation. The 1st life of hero and heroine takes place around 400 years back in Rajastan. Their love does not materialize in that life and the story of the film is about how it is materializes in the current life. There will be a good interval point and this film is supported a good screenplay. We are leaving to Rajastan on 15th of this month. We will shot a couple of fights, a song a few vital scenes over there. If we could able to complete it the way we want in Rajastan, then we will be in a position to announce the release date. My regular technical team is working for this project. I am happy that BVSN Prasad is working for this film. Rama Rajamouli supports me both on and off the screen. Initially Allu Arvind was hesitant about suitability of Kajal for heroine. We did a photo shoot of Kajal and shown him and he was impressed. Ram Charan Teja proved his mettle with great performance in Chirutha film. It will become more challenging to explore new unexposed angles from him in my film.”

Story is close to my heart - Ram Charan teja
Ram Charan Teja said, “I learnt things like Karate, Horse Riding etc before venturing into film industry. I think all those things will matter for my second film. I feel that there is lot of scope for improvement in this film. Story of the film is very good and it is close to my heart.”

Hollywood laps up Taj script for Rs 2 crore

TAJ ON SCREEN
Hollywood clearly has a yen for the Taj. Months after Sir Ben Kingsley made his announcement about a film based on the celebrated mausoleum of love, Krishna Shah has sold the rights of his script Taj for a mind-boggling Rs 2 crore. GenNow may not have a clue about who Shah is, but the Hollywood-based film-maker created a flutter way back in 1978 when he brought Hollywood stars Rex Harrison, John Saxon and Sylvia Miles together with Bollywood stud Dharmendra and sex siren Zeenat Aman in one of India's most expensive films, Shalimar . The Yale-UCLA graduate later set up his company, Double Helix Films, in the West. Confirming to TOI that he had sold his script to Hollywood producers for an impressive USD 4,75,000 (nearly Rs 2 crore, making each page of the 122-page script worth Rs 1.63 lakh), Shah said, "Hollywood pays its scriptwriters well. Manoj Night Shyamalan can get five million dollars for a script without batting an eyelid. But in India, scriptwriters are still paid Rs 15-20 lakh for a script, which is a pity. Leading men here charge Rs 5-7 crore for a film but writers are shortchanged." According to Hollywood trade journal Variety , the film will cost 25 million dollars and will be produced by Michael A Simpson, Judy Cairo, Ken Atchity and Chi-Li Wong. (Shah had also got feelers from Hollywood biggies like Ridley Scott, Michael Rymer and Silvio Sardi, besides Indian producer Ramoji Rao.) The casting for Taj is under way, but Shah says that since he is only the scriptwriter, he won't be in on it. "The director will finalise the cast," he says. "I assume it will have a mix of Hollywood and Indian actors because that is a requirement in the script." claimed, India-born director Michael Radford to helm the film. Radford's Il Postino is the highest grossing foreign language film in the history of world cinema. Kingsley's version will reportedly cover the death of Mumtaz Mahal and then go on to the construction of the Taj (which took 20 years' of work by 20,000 masons) and Shah Jehan's subsequent imprisonment by his son in Agra Fort. Shah's version, on the other hand, is likely to focus on the emotional conflict between Shah Jahan and his stepmother Queen Noor, who was completely opposed to his love marriage to Mumtaz Mahal.

U-19WORLD CUP FINAL TODAY

India hope to be lucky in U-19 World Cup final

Champions in 2000 and undefeated, India will start with an advantage against South Africa in the final of the under-19 World Cup on Sunday as they have beaten them in their pool clash convincingly. The Virat Kohli-led India beat the South Africans by six wickets with 48 balls to spare and the victory should stand the Indians in good stead when they meet again at the Kinrara Oval. Watch: U-19 World Cup: India vs South Africa India, having lost in the final of the previous tournament in Colombo, will be wary, though none of the players of the 2006 squad has survived in this tournament due to the age cap. Four years ago, Pakistan had beaten India comfortably by 38 runs to retain the cup. Playing South Africa in the final could be a blessing in disguise for the Indians, as the 2006 final would not be playing on their minds. India made it to the final with a three-wicket win over New Zealand with nine balls to spare in a rain-interrupted semi-final after a few hiccups in the closing stages of the game. The second semi-final spilled over to the second day. But South Africa kept their nerves to beat champions Pakistan by 98 runs after rains had stopped the match on Friday. India will largely bank on the two Kohlis - Virat and Turuwar - who are in good touch. Turuwar is currently placed third in the run aggregate list, having scored 217 for 54.25 in five matches, slamming three half-centuries. Virat is just one run less than Taruwar, but the skipper has a century to his credit. Left-hander Shreevats Goswami has also done reasonably well, having scored two half-centuries in five matches. In bowling, left-arm spinner Iqbal Abdulla is the top Indian wicket taker with nine. Ravindra Jadeja, Siddharth Kaul and Pradeep Sangwan have bagged eight wickets each. For South Africa, left-handed batsman Jonathan Vandiar, 17, has been the most prolific scorer with 183 runs at 45.75. He has also cracked two half-centuries. Left-arm pacer Wayne Parnell is the second in the tournament's highest wicket-takers list with 16 at a fabulous 8.12 - just one wicket less than New Zealand pacer Tim Southee. (IANS)
